“if crispness in outcome is not possible, then at least be crisp in the process!” —
Jun 28, 2011
“

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.

Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”
The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf.

Then, smiling at the man, he said, “I bet I made a difference for that one.”

art+science = TRIS

Tenenbaum Hazan have come up with a way to take hard plastic roller blinds that have come to the end of their useful lives, and turn them into something new – a chair.

The stylish TRIS seat is made up of a wooden closed contour that holds the old blinds together to create a useful new product. Since the piece is self-assembled, users can swap out the blinds for others too if they feel like a change.

If print is dead, it’s getting a hell of a reincarnation in these killer kicks from Nike.

the paper trail

image

Your goal should be to reduce paper consumption as much as possible, but when buying paper products such as facial tissue, toilet paper, paper napkins, paper towels, and printing paper, keep these tips in mind:

  • Choose paper with high percentages of post-consumer recycled content.
  • Look for paper that has been processed chlorine-free.
  • If buying paper with virgin content, look for sustainable forestry certifications, such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
  • Look for papers certified by multiple-attribute certification bodies such as EcoLogo and Green Seal.
